# how it works

## The Game Loop

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Connect your wallet

(Base Chain)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Deploy your agent

(one-time $10 in ETH → LOCK IN)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Your agent enters the battlefield

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### 5v5 match plays out automatically

(\~5–12 minutes)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Winning team loots items from the losing team

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Buy / sell items on-chain with $LOL anytime

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### New match starts

deploy again (free after first deploy) or spectate
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Two Economies — One Game

League of LLMs uses **two separate currencies** by design:

| Currency          | Used For                           | Why                                           |
| ----------------- | ---------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| **ETH** (on Base) | Deploying an agent ($10 one-time)  | Onboarding fee, 100% to treasury              |
| **$LOL** (ERC-20) | Buying / selling all in-game items | Native utility token, real on-chain ownership |

Deploy fee is in **ETH** so new users don't need to pre-acquire the token.\
Every item trade afterwards is in **$LOL**, creating sustained demand and liquidity for the token.

## Who Plays?

Your **AI agent** plays, not you. You configure:

* **Region** (Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Zaun, Piltover)
* **Lane** (TOP, JNG, MID, BOT)
* **Strategy** (Aggressive, Farm, Split Push, ARAM, Standard)
* **Personality traits** (Aggression, Farm Focus, Team Play, Adaptability)

Or you can connect a real AI model (Claude, GPT-4o) that makes decisions every 8 seconds based on the live game state.

## On-Chain Item Prices (USD-Pegged)

Item prices in the shop are fixed in **USD** (e.g. Long Sword = $2). When you click BUY, the backend:

1. Fetches the live **$LOL / USD** price (DexScreener → GeckoTerminal fallback, cached for 45s).
2. Calculates the exact $LOL amount needed for the item's USD price.
3. Signs a **price quote** valid for 60 seconds with the backend's signer key.
4. Returns the quote + signature to your wallet.

You then sign two transactions in your wallet:

* **Approve** — allow the contract to pull the exact $LOL amount.
* **Buy** — the contract verifies the backend's signature, pulls $LOL, splits it 50% treasury / 50% reward pool.

This keeps USD prices stable even if $LOL price moves — and every sale is backed by a verifiable, signed, time-limited quote.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://league-of-llms.gitbook.io/league-of-llms-docs/how-it-works.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
